Literacy Unlimited is the volunteer literacy tutoring program of the Framingham Public Library. Founded in 1986, Literacy Unlimited strives to combat the problems of adult illiteracy in Framingham and other communities in the Metrowest area of greater Boston. The mission of Literacy Unlimited is to provide training for volunteers to teach basic reading, writing and/or computational skills to learners ages sixteen and over, including those for whom English is a foreign language. Literacy Unlimited wants to serve as a lead agency, responsible for delivering resources to other local programs, including: SMOC Head Start, Framingham Adult ESL Program Plus and The Newcomers and Neighbors Center.

The Infant Toddler Children’s Center (ITC) was founded in 1981 as the first program in the area designed specifically for infant and toddler child care. Since that time, ITC has expanded to include preschool and school-age programs. ITC believes in working together as a community to effectively guide children’s growth and learning, and consequently encourages all members of the classroom community – children, parents and teachers – to share their strengths and talents in an atmosphere of care and support. From daily life in the classroom to center-wide events, ITC provides meaningful opportunities for family involvement and works to facilitate connections between all adults and children in its programs. Child Care Connection is a Child Care Resource and Referral agency (CCR&R) working with families, child care providers, businesses and the community to promote available, affordable, quality early care and education in the Central and Southern Worcester County and Blackstone Valley areas of Massachusetts. Families receive child care referrals and information on how to select quality child care, plus parenting resources. For 140 years, the YMCA of Greater Worcester has been building strong kids, strong families and strong communities throughout Central Massachusetts. The organization serves more than 30,000 adults and children. Committed to affecting positive change and a philosophy of developing spirit, mind and body, the YMCA of Greater Worcester operates eight preschool through kindergarten programs, as well as eleven licensed after school and vacation centers. More than 800 boys and girls are served daily in the childcare programs. The Lincoln Metropolitan Council for Education Opportunity, Inc. (METCO) program operates within the Lincoln School District public schools, serving children in Kindergarten through Grade 8. The METCO mission is to provide the development and promotion of quality integrated educational opportunities for urban and suburban students in the Greater Boston community and to work towards the expansion of a collaborative education program with the Boston and suburban school systems. Under the METCO program, the Lincoln School District has been increasing the diversity of the student body by enrolling minority student residents of Boston since 1966. Everybody Wins! Metro Boston (EWMB) is a regional affiliate of the national Everybody Wins! literacy and mentoring organization. Serving the communities of Greater Boston, EWMB is dedicated to increasing children's prospects for success in school and in life through one-to-one reading experiences with caring adults. EWMB works to generate enthusiasm for reading and improve children's literacy through the Power Lunch program, which matches elementary school students with volunteer reading mentors from businesses and community groups. Read Aloud Delaware is a statewide, volunteer-based organization dedicated to promoting a love of reading, with a focus on the critical early years of child development. Volunteers of all ages read one-on-one to children in child care centers, clinics and shelters serving low-income families. In 2005, volunteer readers worked with nearly 8,000 individual children. Read Aloud Norfolk is one of nineteen designated Read Aloud Communities under the statewide Read Aloud Nebraska (RAN) program. RAN promotes healthy, successful children and families through reading aloud and fosters school and community efforts that develop lifelong readers. The organization works to ensure that parents and caregivers, along with the educational community, read aloud with all children. To achieve its mission, RAN develops informational materials, hosts workshops and presentations, sustains a statewide public awareness campaign and more.
